Paul Gondry’s "The Chronicles of Shpongle" merges sculpture, storytelling, and performance to craft a surreal countercultural universe. Originating from sculpted bongs inspired by Burning Man culture, the film delves into the mythology of the “Shponglers,” who seek escape from reality through hallucinatory rituals, imagined drugs, and fantastical folklore. Partially set in a nightmarish New York, it follows eccentric characters navigating a world where fantasy blurs with everyday life.
