JG Thirlwell will perform a solo, immersive four-channel sound score to Harry Smith's iconic film Heaven and Earth Magic. The score, commissioned by L’Etrange Film Festival in Paris and premiered in 2024, utilizes keyboards with computer/sample programs and theremin. This marks its North American debut. The event commences with a rare screening of Thirlwell's film Sonder.

Avant-garde stop-motion animation, Heaven and Earth Magic, created by Harry Smith in 1962, captivates with surreal imagery derived from 19th-century catalog cutouts. The film's mystical and hypnotic essence has enchanted audiences for decades. The evening also features Thirlwell's 11-minute film, Sonder, commissioned by the Frekvens Film Symposium in 2018.
