For over fifty years, Ken Jacobs has aimed to expand beyond traditional two-dimensional cinema, creating unprecedented experiences of spatial depth beyond ordinary perception. Through choreographed movement in 3D shadow plays, dual projectors revealing hidden spaces in old films, or animated street objects, Jacobs intensifies and reimagines vision itself. The digital works in this program utilize Nervous Magic Lantern and Eternalisms, focusing on his lifelong interest in turn-of-the-20th-century photography and moving images, with the final piece incorporating early radio sound.
