Shōwa no Shichifukujin (The Seven Lucky Gods)

This silent film features the seven lucky gods, played by Onisaburō in elaborate costumes. It showcases Onisaburō’s pioneering use of new media to spread the movement's message. The calligraphic title cards and accompanying poems were handwritten and composed by Onisaburō himself. Most copies of this film were destroyed by Japanese authorities during their campaign to suppress Oomoto, a religious movement that continues today with art at its spiritual core.
