This special screening celebrates the publication of 'The Art of John Canemaker: An Animator's Garden' (2026). Academy Award–winning filmmaker John Canemaker will introduce the matinee, which showcases newly restored classic American animation ranging from Winsor McCay’s 'Gertie the Dinosaur' to Canemaker’s own works. A book signing with Canemaker will follow the screening. The program will also feature live piano accompaniment by Ben Model. All films have been restored by MoMA from its unparalleled collection of New York-based independent animation filmmakers.
